Involvement of children and young people (and parents and carers)

  1. Participation Partnership News: Issue 1

  2. Participation Partnership News: Issue 2

The involvement of children and young people in activities relating to mental health and well-being was a key feature of the SNAP (Scottish Needs Assessment Programme) activity. HeadsUpScotland intends to continue that degree of involvement. The Participation Plan refers to involvement at a national level and how to support involvement locally especially regarding the Framework. The Plan also outlines the responsibilities of HeadsUpScotland regarding training for participation skills and monitoring and evaluation of it across Scotland.

Children in Scotland are leading a multi-disciplinary group to develop this plan. Participation work will last for the duration of the National Project and it will use already existing networks, such as Dialogue Youth , the Children's and Youth Parliaments, Youthlink, LGBT Youth etc. There will be a national event for children and young people organised by NHS Health Scotland. HeadsUpScotland is contributing to this event and will have the opportunity to consult with the delegates about the Participation Plan then.

In addition, on behalf of HeadsUpScotland, Penumbra are formally consulting with children, young people, their parents and carers on the Framework.  Kirstie Farmer is responsible for implementing the participation plan, and can be contacted at: Kirstie.Farmer@penumbra.org.uk.

The Children and Young People's Research Group has developed a web site to consider mental health issues from the perspective of a young person. It is aimed at those in secondary school years 2 and 3.
